Shelter Home in Ahmedabad provided shelter to 1,036 migrants
- People fleeing Ahmedabad were stopped due to lockdown
- 30 in the city and 28 in the rural area together 58 shelter homes were built, facilities including meals were provided
Ahmedabad, April 2, 2020, Thursday
A total of 6 'Shelter Homes' have been set up in Ahmedabad for the migrant working families whose livelihood has been snatched away due to the lockdown. The shelter home, which can accommodate a total of 1,2 people, currently accommodates 1,08 migrants. Out of which 21 people have been given shelter in the shelter home of the primary school of Kathwada village of Daskaroi.
A total of 20 shelter homes have been set up in Ahmedabad urban area. In which 31 people have been given shelter and accommodation has been arranged by the system. All the basic facilities are being provided to these people. On the other hand, 4 shelter homes have been built in rural areas. At present, 31 people have taken shelter in Daskaroi and 6 in Detroj.
Due to the 21-day long lockdown, thousands of families living in Ahmedabad had to go home on foot. Which was likely to produce a corona transition condition. Shelter homes have been set up by the district administration to provide accommodation for the fleeing migrants.
21 people have been given shelter in the shelter home constructed in Kathwada primary school of Daskaroi taluka. These people have been living here for the last 3 days. According to TDO Pankaj Mahida, efforts are being made to provide home environment to the people living in the shelter home. Tea-water snacks and meals are being arranged for them by charitable organizations.
There are currently four days of advance bookings from various charitable organizations to serve these people. TVs have also been arranged to entertain the people living in the shelter home. They are being kept in a way that maintains social distance. New films are being shown.
They are being adequately cared for with a medical checkup. Sweets are also served with lined meals. Various basic facilities including water, electricity, toilets and health check-ups are being provided. Shelter homes have also been set up in Sanand, Dhandhuka, Dholera, Bavla, Dholka, Viramgam and Mandal in Ahmedabad district. This shelter home will also be used if required.
